Recently while going through the paper work to pay the registration on the car I came across an enclosure that listed the various types of vanity license plates you can get here in Texas. Among the standards for the various schools, military and fraternal organizations, wild flowers, state parks, support groups and patriotic and texasotic sentiments was one which read "Texas, it's a whole different country."
Yes! at last it is confirmed and it is not just me.
That's the one I want.
Driving home from a spin guild meeting yesterday I had a really startling encounter with Texas style driving. I was in the middle lane of three lanes of traffic going south, separated from three lanes of traffic going north by the ever present ubiquitous multi purpose left hand turn lane in the middle of the state highway. The traffic was moving a a reasonable speed, but sporadically since the state highway has traffic lights here and there. I was passing a large shopping mall when suddenly a SUV exited the mall, drove between two cars on my right, turned north in my lane and started driving directly towards me. I started to slow and several cars passed me on each side while the car in my lane continued towards me. When we were about to hit, suddenly an opening between two cars on my left occurred and the SUV cut abruptly through to the center turning lane, paused briefly and then gunned off going north with the traffic. Two cars later this occurred again. The drivers, rather than waiting for a break in traffic, were willing to drive the wrong direction on a highway without benefit of turn signals in order to get across to their proper lane to get where they wanted to go.
Coming home at night the other night we encountered two young black me, dressed in black, riding bikes against the oncoming cars,up the unlit one way freeway access road. Obviously another anit survival strategy.
Texas Darwin Awards must be a whole category of and unto themselves.
