Happy 2007 to everyone. Many happy fibery pursuits of the season etc. I am sidelined for a bit longer recovering from a hand injury involving a glass jar shattering in my hand as I put the lid on, a slice requiring five stitches through the base of my right hand index finger, a visit to the ER on December 26, splints and ace bandages a;nd bulky guaze pads, and massive finger and palm numbness although, thank the fates, no loss of movement. Learning to do everything one handed with the wrong hand has been interesting but I'm ready to move on and get back to fibery pursuits and study, once I can take notes again.
Other than the hand, my holidays were lovely with all three kids home from their various graduate school, professional and college lives and everybody was kept entertained by our newly adopted Pembroke Welsh corgi sadie. A new road bike for my husband and some solo urban guerilla bike riding also occurred. It will be interesting to see if having a numb index finger and palm area between thumb and middle finger will help or hinder my riding.
In the meantime I am trying to stay somewhat in shape by doing hours of stationary biking at the gym while listening to books on tape, most recently "in the company of the Courtesan" by Robert Jordan. Weight work with the trainer has gone by the wayside for a while until I get the stitches out and have had the cut heal up enough that I don't have to worry about reinjury, and can grasp with my hand. Hoefully not too long for that.
In the meantime, the swift and looms languish, the wheels and spindles sigh and the fleeces hunker in corners along with the dust bunnies, multiplying in the dark.
