back to the gym

Exploiting the fact that I am gradually feeling better and seem to have found a good balance between functioning and pain medication I have made a couple of tentative trips to the gym this week.

I was pleased to discover that I can actually do an hour on the treadmill at my usual moderate speed of 3.5 mph without staggering or clutching my chest and gasping for breath. In fact it felt pretty good. I was equally pleased to discover that I can also do an hour of light intervals on the recumbant bike with only some minor soreness in the legs. While I was working out, my trainer came over and checked my breathing and effort level several times, so it's pretty obvious that between him and my dh I am going to have to take this slowly whether I will or not. However being able to do two days in a row is a signs of good progress.

The true test of course will come in January when I get through the final check up and xray with the doctor, and then try to get back on the bike and ride beyond our sheltered little series of cul de sac roads onto the open road

In the meantime, I can also weave for short spurts, and knit so I am feeling a bit less stifled. And of course, since I can walk endlessly, Sadie, the corgie is enjoying a lot of extra walks.

Darvocet and the heating pad continue to be my best bedtime buddies and motrin helps during the day. The best thing is that I am feeling clearer mentally and actually beginning to make some motions towards organizing and preparing for the holidays.

yay!!!!

Glad that you are slowly getting back to normal. I know how frustrating it can be.

Wishing you quicker healing!

Glad you're feeling better. Remember, slower is faster! I got all antsy about getting back into it when I tweaked my back, and ended up getting benched for an extra two weeks. Baby steps :)
