Progress report on Miss Kitty Ike

Kitten thinking she's hiding against the background
The rescue kitten found in the parking garage of the hospital during my husband's recent pancreatitis episode, continues to grow and thrive. She has been cleared of all possible disease and infection except for a case of ear mites and begun her kitten shots. Because she does have ear mites, she is in isolation in my work room/study. This is not all a bad thing as she has plenty of room to romp and play, an open but screened window so that she can sniff the fresh air and see what is going on outside.
My three older neutered male cats spent a lot of time last week sitting outside the closed door and muttering threats. This week they seem content to ignore the whole situation and disdain to even venture down the hall. On the other hand, the Corgie Sadie has insisted on coming in and visiting and is quite taken with the kitten, as is the kitten with her.
Each time I open the door to let Sadie in, Miss Ike rears up on her hind legs and waves her arms frantically, looking exactly like a kung fu hero. Off course the heroic image is promptly destroyed as she loses her balance and falls over backwards or falls forward onto Sadie and clambers up on her back to grab an ear and start savaging.
They are quite charming together. Sadie is very patient with allowing the kitten to clamer on her and ride her around, but is more intrigued with chasing after her as the kitten races from the windowsill to under the futon to under the spinning wheel to in the corner next to the door. The futon is particularly irritating to Sadie as she can almost but not quite clamber underneath the futon to continue pursuit. As soon as Sadie has her head and shoulders stuck under the futon, the kitten scampers up over the back, swats Sadie on the rump and races off to a new hidey hole.
Today Sadie started trying to herd the kitten with hilarious results. She pushed at the kitten's rump with her nose, the kitten took two steps and ducked into a shoulder roll ending up with her head underneath Sadie's bell and all four feet frantically flailing and digging at Sadie's side while Sadie ended up sitting on her rump, trying to bend over enough to see what the kitten was doing or to lick her. It might be informative here to mention that corgies, because of their long bodies and short legs, cannot quite bend enough to scratch in their ears with their hind legs. This means that her attempt to bend over and lick the kitten ends up with her falling over with the kitten on top.
They play long enough to wear each other out and then fall asleep on the floor next to each other which lasts until Miss Ike mistakes Sadie as her mommy and gets too rambuctious with the licking and sucking at which point Sadie wakes with a start and the chase starts all over again. It really is quite sweet, and I'm hoping the other cats will adopt her as a playmate in a similar fashion. The exercise would do them good as well.
