Miss Ike helping to warm me up after the ride
I took the weathermans' word that the rain wouldn't start until after lunch and went out for a ride this morning. It was mild, moist and very windy but not unpleasant, at least until it started raining. The rain was coming down in sheets blowing into my face at about 15 mph. It was painful, at least until my face got numb. At least the rain washed the combination of sweat and sunscreen that had been making my eyes sting also got washed away. In spite of the wind, the temperature was relatively mild so in spite of being completely innudated with traffic wash every couple of minutes, it wasn't terribly cold, just really, really wet.
16 miles later, as I pulled into the garage the thunder and lighning started. The second shot was one of those simultaneous crash booms that indicate the very close strike. The Mexicans working on the roof of the house next door were off the roof, across the yard and into their car before the sound died. It pays to have quick reactions.
I poured a cup of rain water out each shoe, managed to wring out at least a cup of rain out of each glove and left puddles from my stocking feet and dripping legs as I walked in to get changed.
Two beach soggy beach towels later, Baby, the bike was fresh clean dried and lubed and neither of us was the worse for wear so all in all, wetherman's lies notwithstanding, it was a good ride.
Today's stats
