Above are photos of the extremely cool t shirt that both Phil and I got for riding in the KatyFlatland Ride, Sunday July 19th before we went to Florida. I had been planning to ride a century and start working towards my goal of riding 6 century rides before April of next year. As it turns out, I was still feeling a bit punchy and sore from the head cold/ sinus infection and pulled hip ttendon so I opted to do a shorter 45 miles with Phil. I might have been able to push myself to 60 but it would have been a real push.
It was a well organized ride, SAG stops every 10-15 miles apart and as the name implies, flat. The longer routes had a couple of gentle swells but the shorter routes were the usual flat straign roads, pick a direction and ride for miles, turn, ride in another direction to the next turn etc. I rode with Phil for most of the ride but as he started to slow down at the end, I found another rit seemed to early for lunch as we had been enjoying the food at the der to pace with for the last 10 miles. Since we had started at 7:30 we were finished by 11:00. The ride organizers were offering aa spaghetti lunch at the finish but it seemed to early for lunch since we had been feasting on watermelon, oranges, bananas and miscellaneous pretzels, cookies etc at the SAG stops we opted to skip lunch and head home.
We did however, swing by the sponsors' tent including the Cliff Bar tent and picked up several cliff bars and shot blocks to use in future rides. And we are definitely enjoyign the t shirts.
