day two-La Place to Port Allen- a long hot supposed to be 100 miles but I bailed at 72 because I stopped to help with a rider from Idaho who had heat stroke. Fortunately one of the Dutch riders (a former police woman and now a police trainer) was there and knew exactly what to do. We got to the crossroadstown,Whitecastle, bought ice, plus cold canned drinks to put under her arms, sprayed her down with clean, cold bottled water and water bottles etc until the van came to get us to the motel. Various riders reported Garmin bike computer termperature readings from 102-108- don't know about that but it was warm and humid and the local weather report said 92. Lots of hot, tired and grumpy ladies, myself included, were awfully glad to get into the ac.
Jane from Wisconsin did her first ever 100 miles. Way to go girl.
today's stats 72 miles and ? mph.
Tomorrow is a short 35 mile day and already people are agitating to sleep in still not understanding that the later you start the hotter it is.
