summing up last week

One of my goals is to ride at least 100 miles a week. I had a couple of good century weeks in March but have sort of chickened out in April, using the excuse of bad weather, heavy winds and rain. Last week for a change I got in 118 miles. It seems the pedal clips have made some significant changes in my biking style or attitude, or maybe I just got tired of whining about the wind. At any rate, since I had the clips put on last Wednesday my average speed has picked up a bit, I can comfortably maintain 13 miles an hour and am able to average some longer sprints at 15 miles an hour in spite of the wind. A year and a half ago, I was struggling to do 35 miles in an 8 hour day of riding. Today I did 26 miles in an hour and forty minutes in spite of the wind.

So two days into this week I am already at 56 miles which means that I have a good start on another century week.

Ride Statistics 4/16/07
Distance-26.25 miles
Average speed- 15.5 mph
Time-1 hour 40 minutes
conditions- 75 degrees, winds from the south south east at 15-20 mph
highlights- a conversation with a elderly couple in a jeep at a stop light who wished me god bless and good speed, a nice start on the distance for the week, good speed average against the winds.
