Another excellent fall ride

Today was another one of those few and far between spectacular fall day in Houston. The temperature was in the low 70's and the humidity low. It was sunny, not a cloud in the sky and for once, the headwinds were moderate. The SAG guy and I did what I had remembered as a 40 mile circuit, around Smithers Lake, but with the new back route up to the coffee shop, it turns out that it is actually almost 50 miles. For a change, I played rabbit and led the way. It made me appreciate how much easier the ride is when I have Phil ahead of me to draft off of although it didn't feel anymore difficult than my usual solo circuit. As we came around the back side of the power plant at the end of Smithers Lake, there were enough winds to create a series of large black dust devils atop the coal piles. It made for some interesting viewing as we rode along.
And as is traditional, we stopped off at Fill Your Cup and had an almost home iced latte and brown sugar scone.
All in all, it was lovely day and a most enjoyable ride.
