I received this letter in the mail Friday.
This is just so wrong in so many ways
"DearMarni,
For a variety of reasons, more and more people are choosing cremation over traditional funeral arrangements. As they plan their final wishes and needs, almost 30% of Americans have selected cremation as their preference! The numbers are increasing every year!
WIN A PREAID CREMATION. Just complete the reply slip information and you will be eligible for a drawing each month for the rest of your life~!!!!
Like we said: "Cremation just makes sense." If you are not interested in spending your famil'ys inheritance on embalming, caskets, vaults, markers, fancy funeral or cemetery property, then this is the answer. "
Sincerely,

Autumn Leaves
The other day I was remarking to Phil that I missed the fall colors from New England, but that I didn't miss the clean up. The fates were listening and we have had three days of cold and wind and the Texas messy tree has dropped a bunch of leaves. I don't know what kind of tree it really is, all I know is that it is continually messy. Starting in midsummer, it drops nasty little pointed green seeds, continuously from midsummer until fall when the leaves begin to drop. They never drop all at once, just a slow continuous dribble until we get a couple of good cold fronts with wind when larger lots fall. Now there are few enough leaves that the Texas ugly birds can roost there in the tree and continue the dropping process on the car and generally amuse themselves while I end up out there almost daily cleaning up dribbles and drabs of seed pods and leaves. This process will continue until mid summer when the whole cycle starts over again.
My usual anit-Christmas rant
I am already sick of Texas country and western Christmas Carols. They have been playing continuously in all of the stores, including the grocery and drug stores, since November 1. I wish they would all just give it a break or invest in some new elevator type tunes. I have a "Feliz Navidad" earworm which alternates with some whiny twangy female singing "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus". It's not a pleasant sensation.
Bah Humbug!
