the good, the bad, and the ugly

The good is that I am getting a reasonable amount of riding in, along with a lovely combination of an hour heavy cardio followed by an hour of yoga twice a week which works exceptionally well for me right now. I can feel my overall strength and endurance improving, and am actually getting back into some free weights andpylometrics. All good.

The bad is that it is summer in Houston and recently it has been hot. I am starting out earlier and earlier in the morning but still am getting caught by the heat. I can't quite get myself back into the predawn start that we were doing on the cross country ride, but I am getting out by 7:30 AM which means that I end up fighting some traffic. By riding more frequently. albeit with somewhat shorter distances, I am still able to get in my weekly goal, but it is hot heavy work.

The ugly is that when I come in from a ride, I am usually dripping so much sweat that I leave puddles wherever I go. Bending over to clean my chain is tantamount to immersing my head in a bucket of warm sweat as it floods down from my head and shoulders to the floor. I am afraid that my bike chain will succumb to the salt and moisture from the constant dripping of my sweat in spite of how much I clan it.

The wet sweaty footprints across the garage floor usually last about an hour.

today's stats

40 miles

2 hour 15 minutes

16.9 mph.
