After a couple of sessions with my trainer, I decided today would be a good day for a post accident ride. The ladies of the Pitts Road Group were planning to do a ride and said that they would take it slow and easy for me. I got up and geared out and was ready to head out when the organizer for the group called and said everybody was bailing because it was only 40 degrees and the winds was strong and from the north. Since I was all geared out anyway, I had another cup of coffee, read my emails, waited for it to warm up and little and then instead of loading the bike on the car and driving 10 miles, I did a standard short ride from home.
Yes it was cold, but with a wool underlayer, cool weather jersey, wind vest, wind jacket and long fingered gloves, along with tights I was warm enough. The wind from the NNE at about 15-20 was nasty but at least I had it as a tail wind part of the way and as a side wind for part of the way.
I stopped by the local coffee shop, Fill Your Cup, for an almost home end of ride latte and was greeted with cheers and hugs by the staff who had seen a report of my accident on facebook and wondering when ir uf, they were going to see me again.
It was a good ride in spite of the wind and the cold. The weather was dry, the sun was shining and I took it easy and did just enough to feel pleasantly tired but not exhausted.
It was good to be back on the road again.
today's stats:
28 miles, 1:58, 14.1 mph
